Code of ethics

PREAMBLE

All members of the SFS are required to practice in compliance with the laws and regulations governing their profession, with respect for the integrity and dignity of people undergoing treatment and with respect for this code of ethics.

1. FIELDS OF APPLICATION

This code binds all organizations as well as all individual members of the French Society of Sophrology.

2. PRACTICE OF SOPHROLOGY

Sophrology in its medical, paramedical and social branches is a discipline in the field of human sciences. It involves the implementation of means that tend towards the autonomy and well-being of patients/clients/students while respecting each person's beliefs (religious, political, philosophical).
This concern also applies to the sophrologist speaking in public:

  • By refraining from any practice or pressure that could jeopardize the integrity of the patient/client/student,

  • By setting fees carefully and refraining from any material or financial exploitation,

  • By respecting and enforcing confidentiality rules.

3. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE

The Sophrologist must practice competently and in compliance with ethical rules.

  • To do this, he must have followed training recognized by the SFS, and keep informed of research and developments in the discipline and its techniques.

  • Only practice in areas where you can demonstrate sufficient knowledge and experience.

4. PROFESSIONAL SECRET

Sophrologists are subject to absolute professional secrecy regarding everything entrusted to them in the exercise of their profession. This secrecy applies within the limits of laws and regulations (especially when minors are concerned).

5. OBLIGATIONS OF THE SOPHROLOGY PRACTITIONER

All practitioners must inform patients/clients/students of:

  • Their rights,

  • From the method used,

  • Financial conditions,

  • Professional secrecy,

  • From the free choice of the practitioner,

  • The average duration of treatment.

This information must be accurate and objective.
In addition, those who work as sophrotherapists must have training in psychotherapy or psychoanalysis, or a title of clinical psychologist or psychiatrist, mastery of sophrology techniques, supervision and a case check.

APPEAL

Any violation of an ethical rule may be the subject of an appeal before the French Society of Sophrology, which brings together a commission to rule on the dispute mentioned.
In the event of non-compliance with ethical rules, sanctions may be considered against the defaulting sophrologist, up to and including exclusion from the SFS.
The complainant must be informed of his possibilities of legal recourse.
